I was cleaning out my backpack when I came across a stack of index cards from a presentation I did in the fall of 2008 (yes, I'm old school, though I also used PowerPoint). Given my 25km one-way daily commute, this adds up to over 22,000km of unnecessary travel. Whoops.

Another round of weedbusting today. We removed Policeman's helmet (Impatiens glandulifera) which tends to favour wet sites, so it got rather muddy. It's easy to pull (actually starting slow and using steadily increasing force prevents stem breakage) which means the mass stacks up pretty fast, though it lacks that visceral rip-it-out-of-the-ground catharsis of English ivy. Also by the end I still had some energy, whereas the ivy leaves you exhausted and sore in a good post-workout kind of way. We also had the added fun of a camera crew documenting us and conducting interviews with everyone, so our muddy, sweaty, work clothed selves can be shown to a wider audience. And the mosquitoes are back.
Alcoholic beverage companies sponsoring car races is like cigarette companies sponsoring marathons.
