A drive through languorous vineyards brought us to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a town that goes out of its way to be extra-historic. We found an Apothecary museum (1), to the delight of my Pharmacist companions, where we looked at displays of pharmaceutical history (2), old equipment, and jars of exotic sounding compounds (3). The houses in the area seem to be trying to outdo each other in terms of superfluous ornamentation (4), and charmingly rambling gardens (5).
Of course we detoured to see the eponymous lake, where we dipped our feet (6) and hands (5) amid the algae and litter. Back in town, the lure of fountains of chocolate (8) combined with the prospect of frozen bananas (9) proved irresistible for some (10). Along the street, with its mansard-roofed buildings (11) and horse-drawn carriages (12), we found a tea shop (yes, our other kryptonite, besides chocolate) and picked up an ice wine flavoured black tea (13). Speaking of wine (it’s one vice after another), we hit a wine bar and sampled some of the wares, picking up a couple of bottles to go with our excellent dinner waiting for us back at Geoff’s Aunt’s house. < previous | index | next > |
