By the time we got up and out of the house, it was midday, and hot. A drive into downtown was followed by a slurpee run before heading to Kensington Market (1), with its colourfully advertised produce shops (2) and eclectic mix of stores (3). A detour through Chinatown (4 and 5) brought us to Queen St. West, where they were setting up for some music awards show or another (7). We stopped at a few stores on Queen partly to shop (Tree found her skirt) and partly to enjoy the free air conditioning. The return trip back North along Spadina (8) took us past some of the University of Toronto buildings (6) and a noteworthy juxtaposition of street posters (9).
We found the distillery district, in spite of Tree’s and my inability to read a map (10). One of our first stops was for gelato (11), where we experimented with self-timers and blinking at inopportune moments. Amid the red bricks and red geraniums (12), we found a nice shady patio for dinner (13). Back in Geoff’s car (14), we got a tour of downtown (15) by circling around looking for (non-ripoff) parking, of which there was none. Eventually we just headed back to the suburbs for ample free parking and readily available bubble tea. < previous | index | next > |
