Student Comments

Comments from Mycology (Fall 2004, UBC), class of 30 students
1. I just want to comment that I really enjoyed working on the group project and the fungi collection. In all my 2.5 years at UBC, I have never been in a 30 people class and I find it extremely interactive. This is a great course and I hope you are teaching next year!
2. I learned a lot of stuff, got off on the right foot, had lots of resources, and stressed me out way less than my other courses by being interesting and having a great prof. I learned how to study for my other tests, too!
3. I enjoyed that this class had more interactions rather than straight lecturing.

Comments from General Biology (UBC), class of 180 students

1. First of all, I want to say thank you for giving us interesting and fun lectures throughout the term. Most biology courses require pure memorization, but you are one of the most amazing professors who really concerns [sic] if we really understand the stuff.
2. I hope that you will be teaching this course again next year. I really enjoyed all of your lectures and think that you are an outstanding person and teacher. Thanks for the great year, and have a great summer.
3. She was a very clear speaker who taught us that biology is a fun subject. A tough marker but a terrific prof nonetheless.
4. I like the way materials are taught in powerpoint. Some interesting short clips, and some extra web site info. Some brainstorming questions presented in class are quite interesting.
5. The WebCT notes are really helpful because we don't need to take down everything. Instead we can actually listen to the lecture. You're a great teacher. Thanks!
6. The online notes were helpful and the questions were kind of challenging, but helped me to understand the concepts better. The lecture presentations were fun and well organized. I enjoyed this class very much!
7. I really like the way you wanted us to understand the concepts and not just memorize. That was real learning!
8. I am just wondering which classes and sections you will be teaching next semaster. I think you are the best biology professor ever!!!! I thought this 3-hour class was supposed to be super boring, but you somehow make it so interesting!! It will be my honor if I can register in your classes again!! Thanks for such a wonderful time!! YOU ROCK!!!
9. It is my pleasure to have you as my professor. I really enjoyed attending your class. You truly have a lot of patience. Thank you so much.
