LAB #3 - Rhizomnium glabrescens

Rhizomnium glabrescens is a common moss in the coniferous forests of our region.


The margins of the leaf are multistratose and the cells are more elongate.

You should be able to distinguish the different types of cells in this slide of the costa.

The cross-section through a stem:

There is a perigonial plant. The antheridia are found in the centre of the black spot

.

This longitudinal section through the perigonium shows the antheridia (as brown sacs) and paraphyses and uniseriate filaments.


You can see an archegonium attached to the base of this broken seta.

The sporangia are nodding.
