Grimmia pulvinata

Grimmia pulvinata is a favorite among bryology students because of its unique hooked seta. Another distinguishing character is its white hair points, which extend 1/3 to ½ of the leaf length. These white hair points can add a greyish tinge to its rich green coloured leaves. As shown in the figure below, it is usually found in dense cushions.

This diminutive moss is can be easily found in urban areas because of its preference for concrete and rock surfaces. The sample shown in figure 1 was found on a concrete divider.
